Tents in the mountains of Nepal.

Erika's Report from Nepal

October 27, 2015

Hello Olo Family,

As many of you know, I recently traveled to Nepal as a volunteer healthcare provider, as part of the Humla Medical Service Trip. It was a remarkable experience. Our group’s collective goal was to put Wisdom & Compassion in Action—and the results speak to our commitment. Our team of volunteers, led by two ordained Tibetan Bon lamas from the region, consisted of four acupuncturists, one OBGYN, two nurses, translators, an amazing support team. We traveled high into the Himalayan Mountains to provide medical care for the Humli people. In total, we treated 550 men, woman and children.

Many of these kind souls, especially the children, received medical attention for the very first time in their lives. We treated a wide array of illnesses and complaints, ranging from chronic pain and disease, to acute trauma and infections, and much more. We also provided much-needed glasses and toothbrushes to several hundred people, and crayons to the children.

The area is isolated and impoverished, yet people are incredibly kind, welcoming and resilient, despite all of the obstacles they face. I can wholeheartedly say that our patients gave us so much more than we could ever hope to offer them.

If you would like to learn more about the The Humla Fund, please check out their website. Stay tuned for updates on my follow-on volunteer work in support of the Humli people & please reach out if you'd like to hear more. I look forward to seeing you all again at Olo for treatment!

Namaste,

Erika Prinz Freed, MS, L.Ac.
